Next Verse

And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

Note 9 at 1 Cor. 1:16: Stephanas is only mentioned three times in scripture. All of these instances are recorded in this letter (this verse; 1 Cor. 16:15,17). The name Stephanas meant "crowned."

The members of Stephanas' household were the first converts of Paul in Achaia (see note 11 at Acts 18:12, p. 682). The apostle baptized them himself. Paul commended them for addicting themselves to the ministry of the saints and told the rest of the believers to submit themselves to people like them.

Stephanas and two other men from Corinth came to Paul in Ephesus and ministered unto him. He said they had refreshed his spirit. It is not sure if these were the men who informed Paul about the problems in the Corinthian church.
