1 Corinthians 2:5
Next Verse

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Note 5 at 1 Cor. 2:5: Paul denounced man's wisdom in the first chapter because it was at the bottom of this strife that he was rebuking (see note 3 at 1 Cor. 1:18, p. 862). He now focuses all his statements back to the point that our faith should be in God and not in man's wisdom or ability. The only reason these divisions had come in the Corinthian church was because some people were promoting men and their ideals instead of God's.

Pointing people to faith in Jesus and Him alone is the only thing that will cause us to come into unity. When the emphasis is put on the delivery of the preacher, the way he dresses, or the looks of the church building, problems are inevitable. Focusing on peripheral issues that turn our attention away from the simplicity of faith in Christ will always cause division. We will never come into unity over the color of carpet or stained glass windows. Our only hope for unity is to unite in our faith in Christ.
