Next Verse |
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
Note 4 at 1Co 2:9: This verse is often quoted to excuse ignorance about the things of God. However, Paul was not saying that people are ignorant. Instead, he was stating the impossibility of people understanding God's wisdom through their own mental abilities. Those who do not love the Lord cannot tap into God's wisdom, but the Lord has made provision for those who love Him to receive this supernatural wisdom.
This takes a revelation from God, which Paul went on to explain in the next verse (see note 5 at 1Co 2:10). Every believer can access the wisdom of God through the revelation knowledge of the Holy Spirit (see note 1 at Lu 2:26 and note 9 at Joh 6:45).
