1 Corinthians 2:11
Next Verse

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

Note 6 at 1 Cor. 2:11: Paul is saying that in the same way that no one really knows the deep thoughts of a person except that individual himself; likewise, no one really knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Therefore, we must be dependent upon the Holy Spirit to receive the wisdom of God in our lives.

A Christian who has not received the baptism of the Holy Spirit (see note 1 at Acts 19:1, p. 686 ) can have some revelation knowledge (see note 1 at Lk. 2:26, p. 56; see note 9 at Jn. 6:45, p. 243), but it will be limited. One of the greatest evidences that an individual has received the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the tremendous amount of God's wisdom that becomes available to him (see note 2 at Acts 2:16, p. 578).
