And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:

Note 3 at 1Co 4:12: This is a tremendous example of Christian love. It is not human nature to turn the other cheek (Mt 5:39), yet Paul blessed those that reviled him. He more than endured persecution--he actually rejoiced in it (Col 1:24 and 1Pe 4:13). When people railed on him, he sought to appease them. This truly was not Paul living, but rather, it was Christ living His life through Paul (Ga 2:20).
