Next Verse

And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:

Note 3 at 1 Cor. 4:12: This is a tremendous example of Christian love. It is not human nature to turn the other cheek (Mt. 5:39). Yet, Paul blessed those that reviled him. He more than endured persecution; he actually rejoiced in it (Col. 1:24; 1 Pet. 4:13). When people railed on him, he sought to appease them. This truly was not Paul living, but Christ was living His life through Paul (Gal. 2:20).
