I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn [you].

Note 5 at 1 Cor. 4:14: Paul's sarcasm (see note 1 at v. 9) and his mention of the things he had endured to share the gospel with them could have crushed them if they accepted his arguments. Therefore, he moves to reassure them of his love. He was warning them as a father would warn his son.
