But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

Note 9 at 1 Cor. 5:11: It must be remembered that these are instructions given corporately to the body of Christ at Corinth. We should not break off fellowship with a brother or sister at our own discretion. This is a form of discipline to be administered collectively as a body of believers after the other steps Jesus prescribed have been taken (see note 5 at Mt. 18:17, p. 277).
