I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
Note 5 at 1 Cor. 6:5: In the previous chapter, Paul said some very stern things to these Corinthians, but he made it clear that he was not saying these things to shame them (see note 5 at 1 Cor. 4:14, p. 878). Yet, in this matter, Paul does point out their shame. This shows how strongly he felt about Christians not using the secular courts to settle disputes.
Note 6 at 1 Cor. 6:5: Paul is asking, "Is there not one believer among you that is wise enough to give a Godly decision to help one come to a settlement? The very fact that you are going before unbelievers for arbitration and settlements reflects your spiritual condition."
These are some of the same people who prided themselves in their wisdom in the earlier chapters of this epistle (1 Cor. 3:18-21, 4:7-8,18). Now Paul is speaking of their lack of wisdom and spiritual understanding that is bringing them to shame.
