Next Verse |
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
Note 16 at 1 Cor. 6:19: The general Greek word for "temple" is "heiron" and is translated so 71 times in the New Testament. This word includes the idea of the entire temple precincts. But the Greek word translated "temple" in this verse (as well as 46 other times in the N.T.) is "naos" and refers to the inner sanctuary, God's dwelling place. This is a vivid illustration of the mystery of God (Col. 1:26-27) and our responsibility to present our bodies as members of righteousness unto and in union with Him (Rom. 6:13).
