For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
Note 10 at 1 Cor. 7:7: Paul was single (1 Cor. 9:5). He was advocating celibacy. This is his second time to mention it this chapter (first-v. 1) and he gives more reasons why he thinks this is good in vv. 25-40. However, in each case, he made it clear that this is not for everyone.
