And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

Note 15 at 1 Cor. 7:35: This is the "bottom line" of all Paul's arguments for celibacy. There is nothing unholy or impure about marriage (Heb. 13:4). It was created by God for a sinless man. The benefit of remaining single is so that all an individual's attention can be focused on the Lord without distraction (see ref. z on this word).
