For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
Note 9 at 1 Cor. 8:5: Paul's previous statement that there is only one God is a qualified statement. There is only one true God. Paul acknowledges that there are multitudes of objects and demons that men call gods and worship but these are not even worthy to be compared to the true God.
