And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
Note 16 at 1 Cor. 8:11: People differ on their interpretation of what perishing means in this verse. Some think it refers to just physical death while others interpret it to mean the weak brother becomes reprobate (see note 6 at Rom. 1:28, p. 746). The Greek word that was translated "perish" in this verse is "apollumi" and means "to destroy (reflex to perish, or lose), lit. or fig." Therefore, it could be interpreted either way. Regardless, this makes the consequences for this weak brother a very serious matter.
