To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all [men], that I might by all means save some.
Note 11 at 1Co 9:22: Paul was speaking about those who are weak in the faith; i.e., still ruled by doubt and misgivings over Christian liberty. Instead of Paul condemning them, he placed himself in a voluntary way under their limitations of conscience. In this way, he hoped to win them fully to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
