But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Note 4 at 1 Cor. 10:5: This is quite an understatement! The Lord was so angry with them that He was going to wipe them all out and start over with Moses' descendents (Ex. 32:9-10). He sent serpents (Num. 21:6) and plagues among them (Num. 11:31- 33; 16:44-49) which eventually killed off all those who rebelled against Him.
