But I [say], that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
Note 4 at 1Co 10:20: Of course, those who were making sacrifices to these idols didn't know they were demons. They thought they were worshiping some form of god. Yet, God's Word here gives us the truth. Any spiritual encounter or power associated with idolatry comes from demons (De 32:16-17, 2Ch 11:15, Ps 106:37-39, and Re 9:20; see note 3 at Mr 1:32, note 12 at Mr 16:17, and note 4 at Lu 4:4).
