1 Corinthians 11:5
Previous Verse
1 Corinthians 11:5
Next Verse

But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with [her] head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

Note 4 at 1Co 11:5: Although Paul was not specifically teaching on women prophesying, he did mention that it happened in the churches. This is helpful in interpreting other passages of scriptures that Paul wrote about women in the church (1Ti 2:11-12).

Note 5 at 1Co 11:5: Paul was saying that in the customs of his day, if a woman prayed or prophesied without her head covered, then that was just the same as if all her hair was shaved off her head ("For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off her hair," 1Co 11:6, Revised Standard Version). In other words, it would be a disgrace.
