1 Corinthians 11:6
Next Verse

For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

Note 6 at 1 Cor. 11:6: In Paul's culture, it was a shame for a woman to appear in public without a veil or covering. It was an even greater shame for a woman to appear with her head completely shaven. Only prostitutes and slaves would appear like that (see ref. o at v. 5). The woman's dress spoke of her morality in those days just as certain ways of dressing make a statement today.
