1 Corinthians 11:18 |
Next Verse |
For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
Note 1 at 1 Cor. 11:18: Paul certainly knew that there were divisions in the Corinthian church. He had already dealt with the "division" among the Corinthians over which minister they should follow in 1 Corinthians 1:10 (see notes 1 and 2 at 1 Cor. 1:10, p. 860). Paul used the same Greek word speaking of "divisions" in 1 Corinthians 1:10 as was used here in 1 Corinthians 11:18. Then again in chapter 12 verse 25, Paul uses this same Greek word speaking about "schisms" in the body of believers.
The Greek word that was translated "division" here is "schisma" meaning "a split or gap."
