1 Corinthians 11:20
Next Verse

When ye come together therefore into one place, [this] is not to eat the Lord's supper.

Note 3 at 1 Cor. 11:20: The New International Version translates this verse as, "When you come together, it is not the Lord's Supper you eat." The Amplified Bible reads, "it is not the Supper instituted by the Lord that you eat." The point that is being made is that the way these Corinthians were observing the Lord's Supper was not consistent with the way the Lord instructed. That's the reason Paul commences to give the proper method of taking communion (vv. 23-34). Those who use this verse to teach that it is wrong to take communion in church have missed the point.
