Next Verse

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Note 31 at 1 Cor. 13:12: This is the apostle Paul talking. This man had a revelation of God and His nature, as possibly no other man that has ever lived has had. Yet, he is comparing his perception spiritually to looking through a dirty glass. Our best state now is not even comparable to what God has prepared for us that love Him (1 Jn. 3:1-2).

Note 32 at 1 Cor. 13:12: As explained in note 28 at verse 10, both the "thens" that Paul makes reference to in this verse are speaking of our glorified state with Jesus in eternity. Until that occurs, the gifts of the Spirit will not cease.

Note 33 at 1 Cor. 13:12: Our knowledge, in our glorified bodies, will be equal to God's knowledge of us now. We will be like Him (1 Jn. 3:1-2). This is already a reality in our born-again spirit (see note 6 at 1 Cor. 2:16, p. 870), and to the degree that we renew our carnal minds, we can draw on that knowledge now.
