1 Corinthians 14:24

1 Corinthians 14:24
Next Verse

But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or [one] unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

Note 4 at 1Co 14:24: Paul here stated that prophecy is superior to tongues (unless it is interpreted - see note 12 at 1Co 14:5) because it edifies the believers (1Co 14:3-4) and causes the unbelievers to be "convinced of all." "Convinced of all" is a phrase meaning "to undergo conviction," and "judged of all" means "to determine the defects of a person" (Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, p. 469). In other words, God's Word, spoken through the power of the Holy Spirit, edifies the believers and convicts the unbelievers, causing them to acknowledge that God is truly among the believers.
