If [any thing] be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.

Note 16 at 1 Cor. 14:30: The prophet's gift did not control the prophet but he controlled the gift, as is stated by the phrase "Let the first hold his peace." The prophet was not compelled to speak something out of control, as if he could not control himself. A person prophesying can control himself and wait for his turn to speak. This is similar to the instructions about the gift of tongues found in verses 27-28.
