But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
Note 27 at 1Co 14:38: The New International Version translates this verse as "If he ignores this [the commandments of the Lord], he himself will be ignored" (brackets mine). The Greek word for "ignorant" used here is "AGNOEO," and it means "not to know (through lack of information or intelligence); by implication, to ignore (through disinclination)" (Strong's Concordance).
This verse seems to have the Old Testament connotation of 1Sa 2:30--"Them that honour me [God] I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed" (brackets mine).
