Next Verse |
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality.
Note 22 at 1 Cor. 15:53: The word "incorruption" is rarely used, and for good reason. There is nothing in our present existence that is incorruptible. Everything in this present world is subject to change (2 Cor. 4:18). But in glory, everything will be reversed. There will be nothing or no one who will be subject to corruption. Everything will be just as perfect then as it is imperfect now. This must happen. Under no circumstances will there be anything in the New Jerusalem that is defiled, or abominable, or anything that is not truth (Rev. 21:27).
Note 23 at 1 Cor. 15:53: W.E. Vine states that the Greek word for "mortal" is "thnetos" and literally means "subject or liable to death." The body is not only subject to death but it is the organ which allows death to exist and carry on it's activities. Our mortal bodies are Satan's beachhead in our lives. If we were only spirits, when we get born again, Satan would have no access to us (see note 9 at Rom. 12:2, p. 826). Therefore, it is truly a miracle that God can quicken (make alive) these mortal bodies and mortify the deeds of theses bodies (Rom. 8:11-13).
