Next Verse

But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.

Note 8 at 1 Th. 2:17: Paul's feelings for the Thessalonians are revealed in this verse. He uses the phrase "being taken" to describe his departure, using the Greek word APORPHANIZO, which literally means one who is bereaved of a parent? (Thayer). It was like his family was broken up when he was forced to leave them. Even though Paul was gone, the Thessalonians were in his heart and he greatly desired to see them.
