1 Timothy 1:2
Previous Verse
1 Timothy 1:2
Next Verse

Unto Timothy, [my] own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

Note 4 at 1 Tim. 1:2: Timothy is identified as Paul's spiritual son in the faith. Paul states in Philippians 2:22 that Timothy had proved himself "as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel." The expression "son in the faith" was only bestowed upon two of Paul's close companions, Timothy (2 Tim. 1:2), and Titus (Ti. 1:4). See reference i in this verse for more information about Timothy.

Note 5 at 1 Tim. 1:2: Paul now gives his familiar greeting of grace and peace (Rom. 1:7; 1 Cor. 1:3; 2 Cor. 1:2; Gal. 1:3; Eph. 1:2; Phil. 1:2; Col. 1:2; 1 Th. 1:1; 2 Th. 1:2; Phile. 3) with the added blessing of mercy.
