Next Verse |
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Note 13 at 1 Tim. 2:6: There is one God (Eph.4:6), one mediator (1 Tim.2:5), one ransom (Heb.10:12,14), and one Gospel (Gal.1:6-9). Even though there are many distinctions between mankind, there is only one provision for their redemption, and that is Christ Jesus.
There is not one God for the Muslims, and one for the Hindus. There's not one God for the Jews and one for the Gentiles. Paul is stressing that though many people find different paths to Jesus, Jesus is the only path to God. Jesus said, "I am the way, . . .no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (Jn.14:6). Jesus either deceived the people or He was who He claimed to be, "the only way to the Father."
Note 14 at 1 Tim. 2:6: The NIV translates this verse, "who gave himself as a ransom for all men-the testimony given in its proper time." The Phillip's translation says, "He gave himself as a ransom for all men-an act of redemption which stands at all times as a witness to what he is."
The thought that is being conveyed here is that the witness of what Jesus did came at an appropriate time, and it is always the appropriate time to share this testimony with others.
