And withal they learn [to be] idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

Note 33 at 1 Tim. 5:13: This isn't saying that every young widow is idle and gossips, any more than it is saying that every older widow is a godly woman; however, there are desires and attitudes more prevalent in youth than in old age. Paul is warning the younger widows to marry instead of trying to enter into a vow of celibacy for the cause of Christ (see note 30 at v. 11).
