Next Verse

I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

Note 34 at 1 Tim. 5:14: Paul's counsel to the young widows who have lost their husbands is to remarry. Jewish law and custom also encouraged remarriage through the act of the kinsman redeemer (Ruth 3:13).

Managing the home is one of the woman's highest callings. To "bear children" qualifies these widows as being young and of childbearing age. "To guide the house," involves household management as well as rearing the children. The scriptures delegate earning a living to the husband, while the wife is supposed to direct the household affairs.
