Previous Verse
1 Timothy 6:3
Next Verse

If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, [even] the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

Note 1 at 1 Tim. 6:3: The word "otherwise" in this verse refers to teaching that is contrary to what Paul taught in verses one and two: such as telling slaves not to submit to their masters (see notes 1-4 at 1 Tim. 6:1-2, p. 1304). Any teaching contrary to Paul's instructions in verses one and two is wrong, and people who would promote such teaching are all of the things that Paul lists in verses three and four.
