Previous Verse
2 Corinthians 1:17
Next Verse

When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?

Note 9 at 2 Cor. 1:17: Paul's plans to visit the Corinthians had changed. Consequently, he was aware that some might say he was unreliable, fickle, and you could not trust what he said. Paul denied these charges by stating that he did not plan things as one walking according to the flesh, to say yes one moment and then follow it with no. Paul had a very specific reason for his delay (see note 18 at v. 23, p. 981).

Note 10 at 2 Cor. 1:17: Paul is saying, "Do I have to repeat what I'm saying to let you know I'm telling the truth?" The answer is an unequivocal no, which he gives in the next verse (see note 11 at v. 18).
