2 Corinthians 5:5
Previous Verse
2 Corinthians 5:5
Next Verse

Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing [is] God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

Note 11 at 2 Cor. 5:5: Paul expressed his earnest desire (v. 2) to receive his glorified body in the previous verses of this chapter. Now he is saying that this is not just his desire, but this is God's purpose and plan for us, too.

Note 12 at 2 Cor. 5:5: The Holy Spirit's presence in the life of a believer serves as a deposit or guarantee (see note 17 at 2 Cor. 1:22, p. 981) from the Lord that all His promises, including that of a glorified body, will come to pass. As the NIV translates this verse, "Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come."
