Next Verse |
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now [is] the accepted time; behold, now [is] the day of salvation.)
Note 3 at 2 Cor. 6:2: Verse 2 is a parenthetical phrase that interrupts verse 1 and verse 3 by quoting Isaiah 49:8. The point that Paul is making is that God's grace is in vain if men refuse the acceptable time, the day of their salvation.
We cannot just come to the Lord whenever we get ready.
Jesus said, "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him..." (Jn. 6:44). There is an acceptable time of salvation and we need to respond when the Spirit of the Lord deals with us. We cannot count on a more convenient time (Acts 24:25).
