For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though [it were] but for a season.

Note 12 at 2 Cor. 7:8: This letter that Paul is referring to is spoken about in 2 Corinthians 2:3-4, 9. It was the letter we now commonly refer to as Paul's first letter to the Corinthians (see Overview in Introduction to the Book of 1 Corinthians, p. 856). Although Paul was sorry at one point that he had written that letter because he realized how painful it might have been for the Corinthians, he is now glad that he sent the letter because of its positive results.
