Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.
Note 20 at 2 Cor. 7:13: Paul was comforted by the report that he had heard about the Corinthians, but his joy was increased by seeing how Titus had been refreshed also. The Greek word that Paul uses here for "refreshed" is "anapauo," and means "to rest" in a physical sense as well as "to refresh, calm or to give rest" (Thayer). It is translated 12 times in the New Testament in the following ways: "rest" 4 times (Mk. 6:31; 1 Pet. 4:14; Rev. 6:11; 14:13); "refresh" 4 times (1 Cor. 16:18; 2 Cor. 7:13; Phile. 7, 20); "take rest" 2 times (Mt. 26:45; Mk. 14:41); "give rest" 1 time (Mt. 11:28); and to "take ease" 1 time (Lk. 12:19).
It is especially gratifying when others are blessed by those you love.
