2 Corinthians 13:2
Next Verse

I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:

Note 2 at 2 Cor. 13:2: Paul is saying he told the Corinthians when he was with them that he would not tolerate people spreading division in the body. He had warned them about this in his previous letter (see references c-e at this verse) and again in this one. Now he is saying that there are no more chances. If there are still divisions and sins when he arrives, he will not warn them again. He will deal with those involved in whatever way it takes to right the situation.

Even Paul's opponents must have shuddered a little bit when they read this. Most people who sow discord and seek preeminence in the body do so behind the scenes. They like subtlety, not direct confrontation. Paul had called their bluff and he was ready to "duke it out" (spiritually speaking) if necessary. We don't have a scriptural account of the outcome. Paul's second visit to Corinth is summed up in Acts 20:2-3 which simply states that Paul spent three months in Greece (where Corinth was located-see note 5 at 2 Cor. 1:1, p. 974; see note 11 at Acts 18:12, p. 682).
