Next Verse

Seeing [it is] a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;

Note 7 at 2 Th. 1:6: The word "recompense" means "to repay." The Greek word from which "recompense" was translated was rendered "repay" in Romans 12:19 which says, "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." The Lord is keeping a record of those who persecute His followers and there will be a payday unless they repent and accept the salvation offered through Jesus.
