2 Timothy 1:5
Previous Verse
2 Timothy 1:5
Next Verse

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Note 5 at 2 Tim. 1:5: Paul had to call things to remembrance. Our memories don't just function automatically. We have to invoke them (see note 5 at 1 Cor. 15:2, p. 954).

Note 6 at 2 Tim. 1:5: "Unhypocritical" (unfeigned) was the nature of Timothy's faith. This Greek adjective was translated "without hypocrisy" in James 3:17. In other words, Timothy and his faith were not fake. They were both genuine.

This faith first dwelt in Lois, Timothy's grandmother, and in Eunice, his mother. They came to faith in Christ through Paul's ministry and then shared their faith with Timothy. This shows the powerful influence that a godly parent has upon her children.
