2 Timothy 1:6
Previous Verse
2 Timothy 1:6
Next Verse

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Note 1 at 2 Tim. 1:6: Our gifts need to be stirred up to function properly. "Stir up" is a phrase that conveys stirring up embers in a fire so they will not go out. The Amplified Version of this verse says, ". . .rekindle the embers, fan the flame and keep burning. . . ." God gives us the fire, but we have to tend it.

Note 2 at 2 Tim. 1:6: In 1 Timothy 4:14 Paul says that Timothy's gifts were given to him by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery or elders. In this verse, Paul says that Timothy's gifting was imparted through the laying on of his hands. Paul was a part of that presbytery.
