2 Timothy 2:18 |
Next Verse |
Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
Note 18 at 2 Tim. 2:18: This same Greek word "ASTOCHEO" which was translated "erred" was translated "swerved" in 1 Timothy 1:6 (see note 13 at 1 Tim. 1:6, p. 1265).
Note 19 at 2 Tim. 2:18: Hymenaeus and Philetus said that the physical resurrection had already taken place. This could mean they acknowledged the resurrection of Jesus, but didn't believe that anyone else would experience a physical resurrection. Or possibly they believed as the Gnostics (a first century sect), that there is only a spiritual resurrection and not a physical resurrection.
Note 20 at 2 Tim. 2:18: Sincere believers were led astray by the false teachings of Hymenaeus and Philetus. If this could happen to people who were sitting under the anointed teachings of the Apostles, Paul and Timothy, then we can be assured that it can also happen today.
