Next Verse

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Note 25 at 2 Tim. 3:7: The Lord puts no premium on ignorance. He says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..." (Hos. 4:6). Yet there is right and wrong knowledge, and right and wrong learning. Man's original sin was to want the knowledge of good and evil which the Lord had forbidden him to have (Gen. 3). The Lord wants us to be "wise unto that which is good and simple concerning evil" (Rom. 16:19).

Therefore, this verse criticizes seeking after knowledge that contradicts God's Word. "There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD" (Pro. 21:30). You can learn about all this world has to offer, but if you don't acknowledge the truth of God's Word, you are a fool (Ps. 14:1; 53:1).
