Next Verse |
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
Note 11 at 2 Tim. 3:13: The word "evil" means "morally bad, wrong or wicked" (Thayer). "Seduce" means "to lead others away from proper conduct and to corrupt them" (Strong). Paul says that "evil men and seducers" will increase and make much progress before our Lord returns (2 Tim. 3:1; Mt. 24:3-5).
This is totally against the doctrine of some modern prophets which teach that the body of Christ is going to take control of the world systems and usher in the kingdom of God here on Earth. That is not the way it will happen. The world system will become even worse before the Lord returns.
It is true that the body of Christ will be in its finest day at the second return of the Lord but there is no scriptural teaching to say that the ungodly will improve along with us. Instead, scriptures like this show a polarization. The godly will become more godly and the corrupt will become more corrupt. The middle ground will disappear and people will be drawn to one side or the other.
Note 12 at 2 Tim. 3:13: "Deceiving" is the Greek verb "PLANAO" and means "to cause to stray, to lead astray, to lead aside from the right way" (Thayer). It has the idea of victimizing another and for the most part by under handed means.
This is always Satan's tactic. He has no real power to destroy anyone, his only power is deception. When we believe his lies, we destroy ourselves. That's why knowing the truth sets us free (Jn. 8:31-32). Once deception is broken, Satan is powerless.
Note 13 at 2 Tim. 3:13: Those who deceive others are deceived themselves. They may know that they are "conning" another person, but are deceived into thinking they can get by with it. All sin is rooted in deception. Knowing the truth sets us free (Jn. 8:31-32).
