Acts 2:30
Previous Verse
Acts 2:30
Next Verse

Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

Note 14 at Acts 2:30: This verse makes it clear that David had understanding of what he was prophesying concerning the bodily resurrection of the Messiah (1 Pet. 1:10-11). There is not an exact account in scripture of a specific time that he received this revelation from God, however, it is very clear from the scriptures that Peter is quoting (Ps. 16:8-11; 110:1) together with the Spirit-inspired commentary of Peter (this verse), that the revelation prophesied had come to fulfillment.

Note 15 at Acts 2:30: This oath is probably referring to David's statement in Psalm 110:4 where the Lord swore and will not repent, that the Messiah will be a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Note 16 at Acts 2:30: As pointed out very clearly here, Jesus was a physical descendant of David, not a spiritual descendant. This also further attests to the fact of an actual physical resurrection of Jesus' body and not just a spiritual resurrection, as some have suggested.
