Acts 9:2
Previous Verse
Acts 9:2
Next Verse

And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

Note 2 at Acts 9:2: Damascus was an ancient city first mentioned in scripture in Genesis 14:15. David conquered Damascus and stationed Israeli troops there (2 Sam. 8:5-6). Ananias, who first ministered to Saul after his conversion, lived in Damascus where there were apparently quite a number of Christians. Paul had to escape from Damascus by night in a basket that was let down over the city wall (Acts 9:23-25).
