And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for [one] called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,

Note 3 at Acts 9:11: Tarsus was the capital of Cilicia and the birthplace of the apostle Paul. Paul was brought up in Jerusalem "at the feet of Gamaliel" (Acts 22:3), but he returned to Tarsus after his conversion, until Barnabas sought him out and he began his public ministry.
