And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
Note 4 at Acts 10:11: This vision was illustrating to Peter that the Gentiles were no longer to be considered unclean but fellow heirs (Eph. 3:6), with the Jews, of God's mercy and salvation through Jesus (v. 28). This was accomplished by offering Peter all types of animals to eat which were unclean according to Leviticus 11:1-23 and Deuteronomy 14:3-21. Peter refused to eat, as any good Jew would do, but the voice of the Lord was insistent that God had cleansed them and that Peter should eat. This was done three times, to establish the fact that the Lord was making a change in what was considered clean and unclean. The Lord followed up this vision with a word of knowledge that three men were at the door seeking Peter and that he was supposed to go with them. When he found out that these men were Gentiles, the meaning of the vision became obvious.
