Acts 10:43
Next Verse

To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Note 5 at Acts 10:43: The Greek word that was translated "remission" here is "aphesis." It denotes a dismissal; release; freedom; pardon; deliverance; forgiveness; liberty; remission. It is defined by the dictionary as: to send; cancel a penalty or punishment; to pardon; forgive; to restore to an original condition.

This word is translated "remission" nine times in the New Testament (Mt. 26:28; Mk. 1:4; Lk. 1:77; 3:9; 24:47; Acts 2:38; 10:43; Heb. 9:22; 10:18), "forgiveness" six times (Mk. 3:29; Acts 5:31; 13:38; 26:18; Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:14), "deliverance" once and "liberty" once (both in Lk. 4:18).
