And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

Note 10 at Acts 12:13: The entrances to the larger houses in Palestine were large folding gateways, large enough to allow in camels with their burdens. In these gates there would be doors through which people could enter when the larger gateway was not needed. This is the "door of the gate" that Peter knocked at.
