Acts 16:27
Previous Verse
Acts 16:27
Next Verse

And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

Note 7 at Acts 16:27: The reason the jailer was going to kill himself was because of the Roman law that imposed the death penalty on the jailer if his prisoners escaped. Rather than face execution, he decided to kill himself (see ref. g at Acts 12:19, p. 644).

The Lord used Paul to point out to this jailer what God had done for him. Without Paul's intervention, this jailer would have died. Likewise, the Lord has called us to tell this hopeless world that God has provided salvation for them. If we don't share the gospel, many people will destroy their lives too.

Note 8 at Acts 16:27: This jailer nearly killed himself and went into a Christless eternity when God had provided a great miracle just for him. He just supposed that there was no way out of this one.

Likewise, Satan has convinced many people that their situation is hopeless when the truth is that God has already provided their miracle for them. Faith is what allows us to perceive God's miracle instead of our problems.
